Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal therapy includes treatment of the supportive tissues of teeth:  typically, bone and gingiva (gums).  If a person has advanced periodontal problems, teeth can become severely compromised.  Although treatment can take some time to accomplish, procedures to achieve some esthetic result can be performed rather quickly, and often in the same appointment as the periodontal treatment.

Gum problems are not always apparent:  they can occur slowly over time.  Some signs of periodontal problems can include:

  • Loose teeth
  • Spaces forming between teeth, usually in the front of the mouth
  • Bad breath
  • Sensitivity
  • Bleeding gums
  • Receding gums
